JustScreen Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 September 2026
Who is responsible
JustScreen is published under the name valisdk and operated by Finn Stefansen (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the JustScreen application for Meta Quest and information you choose to send us about the app.
For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@valis.dk. Our website is valis.dk.
The short version
JustScreen is a local-network player for your own media. No JustScreen account is required. During normal app use, your library information, playback history, settings and optional saved media-server credentials stay on your headset or are exchanged with your local media server as needed. They are not uploaded to us.
JustScreen does not include advertising, analytics, cloud sync or an automatic diagnostic-report uploader. We do not sell your personal information or use your viewing activity for advertising.
Information the app uses
JustScreen processes the following information to provide its features:
- Local media-server information: server names, local network addresses, service endpoints and server identifiers. These let the app discover, remember and communicate with compatible servers.
- Library information: media identifiers, titles, descriptions, genres, artwork, cast details, playback resource addresses and technical track information supplied by your servers. These build your unified library and movie or episode details. Available fields depend on the server.
- Playback history and choices: playback positions, duration, recently played items, completion state, and saved audio, subtitle and 3D preferences. These provide Continue Watching and restore your choices.
- Screen and interface preferences: saved screen profiles, size, distance, position, curvature and menu placement. These restore your preferred viewing setup.
- Optional server credentials: a username and password you enter to access richer metadata from a protected local server, currently Kodi. This is not a JustScreen or cloud account. Basic DLNA functionality does not depend on this optional connection.
- Runtime interaction and playback information: headset, controller and hand poses, button/gesture input, and available decoder capabilities. These support rendering, interaction and compatible playback. The app does not record a continuous history of your head or hand movements; it can retain screen and window placements derived from your adjustments.
- Local diagnostics: playback states, errors, codec information, timing and server or media identifiers may appear in app/device logs for troubleshooting. These are not automatically uploaded by JustScreen. Diagnostics are designed to exclude passwords and authentication headers, but logs can still contain information about your library or local network.
JustScreen does not request microphone recordings, raw camera images, contacts or GPS location. Hand tracking is supplied through the Quest runtime, rather than by the app recording camera footage.
Local network communication
The app communicates with your local media servers to discover content, retrieve metadata and artwork, authenticate when you choose to provide credentials, and stream the media you select. Your server necessarily receives requests and the headset’s network address; its own software may keep access logs.
JustScreen’s media, metadata and artwork requests are restricted to permitted local/private network destinations. The app does not query public movie-metadata services or send your library to valisdk for enrichment. Your media server may independently use online services according to its own configuration and privacy terms.
Some local servers use unencrypted HTTP. Encryption of saved credentials on the headset does not encrypt HTTP traffic in transit. Use trusted local servers and a network you trust.
Local storage and security
History, settings, metadata and artwork are kept in JustScreen’s app-specific storage on the headset. Cached information may be refreshed, replaced or removed as the app operates. Ordinary library and settings files are not individually encrypted by JustScreen.
Saved server credentials are encrypted using Android Keystore-backed encryption; the key is kept separately from the encrypted credential records. Credentials are used only for the associated server connection. Removing all saved credentials through the privacy controls also removes JustScreen’s credential-encryption key.
The app does not intentionally save user data in arbitrary shared folders and disables Android app-data backup in its manifest. No storage or network system can provide an absolute security guarantee.
Your deletion controls
Open Library → Privacy to reach Privacy & Data.
- Clear Artwork Cache removes downloaded artwork. It does not clear playback history, saved profiles or credentials.
- Clear Playback History removes JustScreen’s resume positions, Continue Watching and recent playback history. It does not remove saved track preferences, screen profiles or credentials.
- Clear Saved Credentials removes saved media-server credential records and their encryption key. Basic DLNA remains available. Previously cached metadata may remain until you clear it separately.
- Clear All Local Data, followed by Clear Everything, removes JustScreen’s local playback history, library and artwork caches, remembered servers, saved screen profiles, preferences and saved media-server credentials, including the credential key.
Clearing data stops playback and reopens the library. Servers can then be rediscovered and their library information downloaded again. That does not restore deleted JustScreen-local viewing history.
These controls do not change your media files, accounts or data on your media servers. Uninstalling JustScreen also removes its app-specific files and preferences from the headset. Copies you exported or sent elsewhere, and operating-system logs managed by Horizon OS, are outside these in-app deletion controls.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to include. We use that information to respond, investigate your issue and handle privacy requests. Our email service provider processes the correspondence on our behalf. Information may also be disclosed when required by law.
There is currently no automatic in-app upload of diagnostic reports. If you choose to send a screenshot or log for support, review it first and remove information you do not want to share. Please do not send media-server passwords or unnecessary copies of your media library.
How long information is kept
Saved local preferences and history remain until you clear them or uninstall the app; caches may be removed earlier through normal cache management or by the operating system. Temporary playback and interaction state is used while the app runs. Device logs are subject to the operating system’s retention behavior.
Support correspondence is retained only as long as needed to resolve the request and meet applicable legal obligations. You can ask us to delete information you sent us at privacy@valis.dk. We cannot remotely retrieve or erase app data that exists only on your headset; use the in-app controls for that data.
Legal bases and your rights
Where European data-protection law applies, we rely on performing our contract with you for processing necessary to provide the app features you request, and on legitimate interests in responding to support requests and maintaining a secure, functioning service. We may also process information where necessary to meet legal obligations.
Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact privacy@valis.dk to exercise these rights. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority; in Denmark this is Datatilsynet.
JustScreen does not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Other services and this website
Meta operates the headset platform and Store under its own privacy terms. Your media-server software also has its own data practices. This policy does not describe data processed independently by those services, such as platform accounts, purchases or server-side activity logs.
Visiting valis.dk or sending email is separate from using the app on your local network. Website hosting and delivery can involve ordinary request information such as an IP address and browser details. Website-specific logging, cookies and service providers must be described in the website’s own privacy information; the app’s local-only behavior is not a claim that visiting a website generates no network requests.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when JustScreen’s data handling changes and revise the date above. Any future feature that sends optional diagnostic information to us will require a separate explanation and an explicit user action; it is not part of the current automatic app behavior.
